16 and Pregnant': documentary and reality

Written By Katrin on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 | 9:22 PM

There are two sides to '16 and Pregnant': documentary and reality. On the documentary side, the series doesn't hold back in its depictions of teenage pregnancy and the affects it has on everyone surrounding the newborn. There are plenty of fights, plenty of breakups and even an arrest or two.

Two shows return and two shows wrap up their seasons tonight. Glee and 16 and Pregnant are back on the air while Parenthood and Destination Truth finish up. Here's what's on TV Tuesday.

dragon age 2 review

Written By Katrin on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 | 5:50 AM

The Dragon Age 2 update release is in every way an expansion on the previous entry to the series and will release on March 8th.

The controls system when the original Dragon Age Origins was ported did not seem to work well on the PS3 or X360. When it comes to Dragon Age II, this is most definitely not the case. The conversation wheel in the new Dragon Age 2 walkthrough is quite a bit different than previous titles from BioWare as well.

There are positive and negative responses as well as middle of the line sarcastic or cynical answers which may or may not have much effect overall, but definitely shape your characters persona when it comes to your build of Hawke, the character you use to play out the storyline.
Dragon Age II Walkthrough video guide

So as said prior the overall game design of Dragon Age 2 is indeed geared more towards console systems, and that by default makes the PC version run much simpler, however it still remains challenging when it comes to battling Darkspawn and difficult bosses, on either version.
Dragon Age 2 walkthrough strategy guide (PC PS3 XBOX 360)

The latest Dragon Age 2 review has arrived, ahead of the online embargo blowing wide open at 5pm this afternoon.

The latest issue of PSM3's awarded the BioWare game 90%, praising its "fluid and satisfying" combat and "admirable freedom" in play style and character development.
The mag particularly likes how BioWare's cut out the fluff this time around, getting straight to the action and never letting up.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to read these reviews right now, as they are both taken from respected gaming magazines, but you can at least stand relieved that both publications have given the game an excellent review, in case you were having doubts about whether to buy Dragon Age 2 or not.

Out on PS3 and Xbox 360 as well as the PC, we also have a review score from PSM3, who have awarded the game a 90% score out of 100. Are you loving Dragon age 2?

Aubrey O'Day is back to give fans All About Aubrey

Written By Katrin on Monday, March 7, 2011 | 11:36 PM

Former Danity Kane singer Aubrey O'Day is back to give fans All About Aubrey. With All About Aubrey set to premiere Monday, March 7 on Oxygen at 10pm, TheDeadbolt spent some brief time with the former Danity Kane singer to find out what Aubrey O’Day learned from her time in the spotlight with Danity Kane, how O'Day has handled career since leaving the group, her colorful pets, and what fans can expect from a new and improved Aubrey O'Day when All About Aubrey makes its debut.

Once again "Aubrey O'Day" makes a strong case for being not so fashion savvy as she wore yet another eclectic outfit, featuring what looks to be a pair of silver short-shorts with black ruffles and a fucsia animal print blouse. After numerous fashion fails (see more below) we're beginning to wonder if Aubrey might be colorblind.

Aubrey wore the outfit Friday night to the premiere party for her new show, All About Aubrey, which debuts at 10pm on Monday, March 7th on the Oxygen network.
Aubrey O'Day never got Diddy's blessing for starting her own reality show, but that hasn't stopped her from doing it.

'Breakout Kings' Series Premiere

Though it has a Prison Break pedigree, with PB executive producers Matt Olmstead and Nick Santora as co-creators, Breakout Kings seems a lot lighter in tone, and there's no guy completely covered in a largely unnecessary tattoo. Duchamp (Laz Alonso) and Zancanelli (Domenick Lombardozzi) are law enforcement agents who have assembled a team of some of the toughest criminals they've ever caught to help them hunt convicts who have escaped from jail. The team is: Shea (Malcolm Goodwin), an "entrepreneur" (a.k.a. former gang member); Lloyd (Jimmi Simpson) a behavioral expert; and in the first episode Philly (Nicole Steinwedell), a con artist/beauty queen. Naturally, they call themselves the "Breakout Kings."
Otherwise, there is no show. So there's a distinct lack of suspense.

If it takes a thief to catch a thief, then the criminal ensemble of Breakout Kings is vastly overqualified. US Marshals form a special task force to chase and apprehend high-profile escaped convicts. Quiet, fragile Julianne (Brooke Nevin, The 4400) plays the analyst/coordinator. Fans hoping for a return to gritty con drama may be disappointed that Breakout Kings follows the more lighthearted case-of-the-week formula that most police shows employ. On Breakout Kings, almost the entire cast – cops included – would be antagonists on other TV shows. The character is competent if forgettable. Even forgetting the rather ridiculous idea of cops allowing hardened criminals free reign to chase after their fellow inmates, the show manages to juggle extremely flawed protagonists, who-dun-it mystery and classic chase elements.

Overall the show is very entertaining when it focuses on the chemistry between the cops and cons and leaves out the emotional tension.

The trouble with that expertly-concocted, well-cast drama is that it had a shakier life once its cast actually broke out of prison. With no time bomb ticking or escape plan imminent, "Breakout Kings" looks like it can breakout its own variations on weekly action , for several seasons to come.

Dani Johnson New series Secret Millionaire premiered tonight

Written By Katrin on Sunday, March 6, 2011 | 7:36 PM

New series Secret Millionaire premiered tonight on ABC (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET). In tonight’s episode Dani Johnson, millionaire and successful entrepreneur spends time spend six days in one of the poorest areas of Knoxville, Tennessee.

In tonight’s Secret Millionaire, Dani Johnson must survive on minimum wage and face all the struggles of those living at the poverty level. “Secret Millionaire” premieres SUNDAY, MARCH 6 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on The ABC Television Network.

Episode Synopsis: SECRET MILLIONAIRE “Dani Johnson: Knoxville, TN” Episode 1- In the premiere episode, millionaire and successful entrepreneur Dani Johnson leaves her family and lavish lifestyle behind to spend six days in one of the poorest areas of Knoxville, Tennessee, in search of those most in need of her help

Dani Johnson, bestselling author and success coach, reacted unlike most people when given the opportunity for some limelight – with a slammed door, so to speak.

Rejecting ABC four times before finally saying yes, Johnson is now set to star in the upcoming reality show “Secret Millionaire,” where self-made entrepreneurs go incognito for a week to some of the country’s most impoverished neighborhoods on a mission of finding unsung heroes within the community.

Keeping his or her wealthy identity a secret, each millionaire must find a local nonprofit organization or charity to volunteer at, under the disguise of filming a documentary.
Johnson and her husband started King’s Ransom, a non-profit foundation dedicated to serving people and giving to those in need around the globe.

Caring more about serving than about having her face plastered all over television, Johnson continually told ABC that she was not their girl, according to CT.
Johnson explained to CT that God opened up a platform to put one of His own on ABC on a Sunday night to proclaim who He is.

The edited version of this week’s program will show Johnson telling each person at the end of the filming, “I have a check for you.” Johnson started a business from the trunk of her car and a payphone booth. Johnson has a strong passion to help people improve their lives, decrease their debt and increase their salaries.

“My heart hurts for the hurting because I have been there too many times,” Johnson described to ABC.
Hoping to inspire viewers to use their influence to help others who are in need, Johnson left the reality show passionate about mobilizing people.

naacp image awards 2011

Written By Katrin on Friday, March 4, 2011 | 8:05 PM

Here are the NAACP Image Awards 2011 winners list and nominees, and red carpet photos and video.

The 42nd Annual NAACP Image Awards has announced its winners at a live ceremony in Los Angeles, California on Friday, March 4. In music, John Legend and The Roots dominated the pack.

Outstanding New Artist trophy was given to young Willow Smith. The 10-year-old Roc Nation singer won over much-older artists like B.o.B, Bruno Mars, Jason Derulo and Nicki Minaj. But the little girl lost Outstanding Music Video to Alicia Keys.

Outstanding Male Artist title was given to Usher who pushed aside Kanye, Cee-Lo Green, Jay-Z and Ne-Yo. Outstanding Female Artist, meanwhile, was handed to Mary J. Blige. She won it over Chrisette Michele, Corinne Bailey Rae, Rihanna and Sade.

Aired on FOX, 2011 NAACP Image Awards honors the best achievements by people of color in TV, music, literature and movie.
The NAACP is receiving political pressure for adding a Hip Hop category to the NAACP Image Awards, airing tonight. The Reverend expressed his outrage to San Jose-Mercury Sun.
The nominees representing Hip Hop in this year’s awards include, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Diddy-Dirty Money, B.o.B. and others. Other religious figures like Rev. Lucious Smith, pastor of Pasadena Friendship Baptist Church compare rap mogul Sean” Diddy” Combs’ success to that of a Tobacco worker. In reaction to several complaints, Joe Brown of Pasadena, California’s branch of the NAACP stated, that the nomination process would be reviewed to ensure that artists with dirty lyrics don’t get selected. It is interesting to see these religious figures fighting the NAACP’s decision to nominate Hip Hop. Some images and messages in the genre’s broadest aspects are deplorable. Like life, not everything about the art of Hip Hop is going to be pretty, but it is the shock of Hip Hop’s grit that has allowed it be so progressive.
Hip Hop transcend cultural and social economic boundaries, to aid in election of our current president.

But, possibly moved by Paula’s speech, Travis changed his mind and gave them a gold star, allowing them to move on.

The Sing Off winners marked the first time that Committed

Written By Katrin on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 | 10:27 AM

Did you see Committed take home the title of The Sing Off winners on Monday December 20th, 2010? It was a five week intense competition that ended with the gospel group winning a record deal and $100,000.

Of their win, group member Theron Thomas said, “We’d really like to make an inspirational album. Celebrity judge for the show, Ben Folds, is completely supportive and enthusiastic about the group’s win. About performing Jackson’s song, Thomas said, “It was very moving to us, very inspirational. Will you be buying their debut album? Did Committed deserve to win over the other group?

Fueled by the insights of judges Ben Folds, Nicole Scherzinger and Shawn Stockman, the show has kept a delightful balance between jaw-dropping spectacle and practical musical engagement, something you don't normally see on something more sensationalistic like "American Idol" or "America's Got Talent" (new "Idol" judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez should really take a crash course with Folds on how to be an excellent reality competition judge). On Monday night (December 20), the show crowned its champion during a live finale, and when the judging was over and the dust cleared, the gospel-tinged ensemble Committed edged out the more rock-oriented Street Corner Symphony for the victory.

After five weeks of singing secular music, the Alabama gospel group Committed is vowing to stay true to its roots after being named the second-season winner of NBC's "The Sing-Off" reality competition Monday night (Dec. 20).

Committed, whose debut album is due out in the spring of 2011, has suppport for that goal from Ben Folds, one of "The Sing-Off's" three celebrity judges.

"The Sing-Off" marked the first time that Committed, comprised of five graduates and one current student of Oakwood University in Huntsville, sang secular pop songs rather than the gospel and devotional material the sextet typically performs. Besides singing, the members of Committed do play instruments and say they'll consider using some on their album.

robot chicken star wars episode 3

Written By Katrin on Monday, December 20, 2010 | 8:02 AM

We love “Robot Chicken!” Like “Family Guy,” they’re known for their amazing Star Wars homages and on Sunday night the latest installment in their parody series aired, aptly titled, “Robot Chicken: Star Wars: Episode III.” “Robot Chicken” star and producer Seth Green spoke to EW about the episode and stated, Star Wars is endlessly available for parody.”

Seth Green and Matt Senreich’s Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode 3 debuted --. Short video clip: Robot Chicken Star Wars Episode 3 – Escalator scene

This Sunday, multimedia comic whiz Seth Green debuts Robot Chicken: Star Wars Episode II--), his third send-up of George Lucas’s ubiquitous space saga. We chatted with the man who brought you “Admiral Ackbar Cereal” and “Jar Jar Binks for Gecko Insurance” about his new special, why Star Wars is endlessly ripe for parody, and his effort to redeem the aforementioned Gungan.

On making fun of Star Wars: Star Wars is endlessly available for parody. Then Matt had the idea of telling the entire series of Star Wars in one episode through the eyes of a few key characters — namely, the Emperor, Darth Vader, Boba Fett, and Gary the Stormtrooper — and that’s what this is.

Watch that scene. On rehabilitating Jar Jar through comedy: It was kind of awesome, because there was such an imbalanced [negative] response to that character. It’s the same thing with Jar Jar. Adults hate him, but kids loved him. On claims that Jar Jar was a racial stereotype: It’s tough. Do you know how many different names there are in the Star Wars universe? On whether Star Wars fans are funnier than fans of other franchises: Well, Star Wars has had more time to cross generations. It’s like, “Oh, we all love Star Wars.

On the X Factor final

On the X Factor final, pre-watershed, "Christina Aguilera" and her dancers performed acts with a chair that would have made Cabaret's former furniture botherer, Liza Minnelli, blush to her very temples. Once again bottoms were aloft, crotches flashing, as if the show's producers were trying to deliver a very specific message to the hordes of six-year-old girls who were watching. Excellent.

In the Sunday instalment of the "X Factor final", X Factor "rejects" performed a version of Bad Romance that ended with former contestant Chloe Mafia being lowered on to the stage in a giant pair of lips-- The look of glee on Simon Cowell's face was quite astonishing to behold.
