Electric Motors in 2017 Predicted World's most popular

This weekend, Google celebrated the 119th anniversary of the creation of the Sundae, that yummy soda fountain confection of ice cream, fudge, nuts and whipped cream with a cherry on top.

The rumor mill for Google is getting as contagious as the Cupertino variant. But with how often a new flavor of Android comes out, and considering that Android 2.4 was always rumored to be called “Ice Cream,” is Android (Sundae) that much of a stretch?

Rolling over in my bed--and then rolling over the logo--I discovered that Google was celebrating the 119th anniversary of the first documented ice cream sundae.

Search Engine Watch, for example, is sniffing that "Sunday's sundae is Google's way of whetting the world's appetite for the latest Android update, nicknamed Ice Cream."

Might it, for example, be the work of worried Google staffers, encouraging new CEO Larry Page to eat a little more as he attempts to drive Google beyond its current, slightly static state?
Even though all that proves is that the term was invented at some point not too long before the ad was printed, Google has chosen to respect local lore that holds that the term was invented April 3, 1892, by Chester Platt and John Scott at a pharmacy/soda fountain owned by Platt, in Ithaca.

Strong earthquake hits Japan, tsunami Potential

Tokyo - An earthquake with a strength of 7.2 on the Richter scale rocked the area off the coast of northeastern Japan on Wednesday, and potential tsunamis that were announced early warning, according to Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

Tsunami warnings as high as 50 centimeters notified to the northeastern region of Japan, a report by public broadcaster NHK.

The quake's epicenter was 10 kilometers below the earth's surface, off the coast of Aomori Prefecture, NHK said.

Tohoku Electric Power Company declared Onagawa nuclear power plant is operating normally after the initial quake. Meanwhile, Tokyo Electric Power also said there was no effect on its power plants in the region.

Earthquakes are common in Japan, one of which is seismically the most active in the world. The country was facing 20 percent of earthquakes with the power of 6.0 on the Richter scale or more of the world.

While New Orleans is the most notorious city to celebrate Mardi Gras in America, other parties dwarf the Big Easy's two months of parades.

Kilauea volcano in Hawaii

The Kilauea volcano, one of five volcanoes that form the Big Island of Hawaii, has erupted putting on a spectacular display of flowing molten rock.

The fissure eruption was spotted shortly after the floor at the Pu'u O'o crater collapsed around 5pm local time on Saturday, the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory said.

It ran along the middle of Kilauea's east rift zone, about two miles west of Pu'u O'o.
Scientists said areas near the vent at Kilauea, which has been in constant eruption since 1983, could erupt or collapse without warning, posing a threat to hikers.

Following the latest activity, the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has closed a number of roads and trails.

On the volcano’s eastern side, a 1605-foot-long fissure in the ground opened. And another crater called Napau began erupting.

Kilauea is one of five shield volcanoes that forms the island of Hawaii, and it’s name means “spewing” or “spreading.” It’s also the most visited attractions in Hawaii, and the most visited volcano in the world.

Areas around the newly opened vent could erupt or collapse without warning, scientists cautioned. The Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has closed Chain of Craters Road and all east rift zone and coastal trails and Kulanaokuaiki campground is also closed at present.

'Breakout Kings' Series Premiere

Though it has a Prison Break pedigree, with PB executive producers Matt Olmstead and Nick Santora as co-creators, Breakout Kings seems a lot lighter in tone, and there's no guy completely covered in a largely unnecessary tattoo. Duchamp (Laz Alonso) and Zancanelli (Domenick Lombardozzi) are law enforcement agents who have assembled a team of some of the toughest criminals they've ever caught to help them hunt convicts who have escaped from jail. The team is: Shea (Malcolm Goodwin), an "entrepreneur" (a.k.a. former gang member); Lloyd (Jimmi Simpson) a behavioral expert; and in the first episode Philly (Nicole Steinwedell), a con artist/beauty queen. Naturally, they call themselves the "Breakout Kings."
Otherwise, there is no show. So there's a distinct lack of suspense.

If it takes a thief to catch a thief, then the criminal ensemble of Breakout Kings is vastly overqualified. US Marshals form a special task force to chase and apprehend high-profile escaped convicts. Quiet, fragile Julianne (Brooke Nevin, The 4400) plays the analyst/coordinator. Fans hoping for a return to gritty con drama may be disappointed that Breakout Kings follows the more lighthearted case-of-the-week formula that most police shows employ. On Breakout Kings, almost the entire cast – cops included – would be antagonists on other TV shows. The character is competent if forgettable. Even forgetting the rather ridiculous idea of cops allowing hardened criminals free reign to chase after their fellow inmates, the show manages to juggle extremely flawed protagonists, who-dun-it mystery and classic chase elements.

Overall the show is very entertaining when it focuses on the chemistry between the cops and cons and leaves out the emotional tension.

The trouble with that expertly-concocted, well-cast drama is that it had a shakier life once its cast actually broke out of prison. With no time bomb ticking or escape plan imminent, "Breakout Kings" looks like it can breakout its own variations on weekly action , for several seasons to come.

It’s getting hard understanding Chevrolet Volt’s pricing policy! Then in Europe it is priced at 41,950 Euro. And then there’s the Opel Ampera, the European version of the Volt which is priced at 42,900 Euro!

It is the automotive industry’s longest, most comprehensive battery warranty for an electric vehicle.

The announcement was made right on the floor of the Geneva Auto Show, where the Opel is displaying the Ampera, by Wayne Brannon, Chevrolet Europe president.

"We believe Volt is the best solution on the planet today for worry-free electric driving", says Wayne Brannon, president and managing director of Chevrolet Europe. "Our price in Europe is based on the U.S. Volt price adjusted for transportation cost, import duties, exchange rates and homologation."

According to General Motors the "Chevy Volt" can travel 25 to 50 miles (40 to 80 km) on a 16 kW•h lithium-ion battery. EPA rated the Volt’s combined city/highway fuel economy at 93 miles per gallon gasoline equivalent in all-electric mode, and at 37 mpg-US (6.4 L/100 km; 44 mpg-imp) in gasoline-only mode, for an overall fuel economy rating of 60 mpg-US (3.9 L/100 km; 72 mpg-imp) combined.

2011 Strawberry Festival

The gates are open to the 76th Annual Strawberry Festival. The Wish Farm Soundstage isn't just hosting country acts this year. There's even a rock n' roll robot named Rock-It the Robot. Barbara Caccamist with St. Clements Church booth taught Sean how to do it right. According to Barbara, Sean nailed it!

It's not exactly a beauty contest but 16 dairy cows had the chance to strut their stuff Friday afternoon at the Florida "Strawberry Festival".
"The dairy judging competition gives student exhibitors the chance to test their own judging skills," said competition coordinator Suzanne Churchwell, a science teacher at Plant City High School.

Lauren Poley, 18, a Sickle High School student and 4-H member at the school, took part in the dairy judging for youth competition.

Brooks was the dairy showmanship champion at last year's festival. At the festival Brooks will show seven different dairy cows in seven different age class competitions.
The festival runs through March 13.

The results of Friday's dairy contestant judging weren't immediately available The 2011 Strawberry Festival and Indie Music Fest, continuing through Sunday at 8200 Immokalee Road is really three events in one.

The event is a music festival, offering over 45 bands onstage, playing music from metal to bluegrass, pop, and old-fashioned rock and roll.
The "Strawberry Festival and Indie Music Fest was created by Cornerstone United Methodist Church pastor Roy Kerry IV, stemming from his love of “indie” music, and is now in its third year.

Japanese car maker Mazda is recalling more than 50,000 Mazda6 cars in US after finding spider web in the vents. The Mazda recall also affects another 15,000 vehicle in Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico.
'A certain type of spider may weave a web in the evaporative canister vent line and this may cause a restriction in the line,' it said in a letter to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

For some strange reason, yellow sac spiders have infested themselves into the engines of 50,000 Mazda6 Sedans.

Mazda said it was unaware of any fires, injuries or crashes in the vehicles.
Jeremy Barnes, a Mazda spokesperson, said that dealers had identified 20 cases where the spider webs were found in the vehicle vents. Webs found were linked to yellow sac spiders, Barnes said. ”Perhaps yellow sac spiders like to go zoom-zoom?” Barnes joked.
Dealers will inspect and clean up the vent line and install a spring to prevent a spider from entering the vent line.”

In Friday's terrifying news story of the day, a tiny spider's web might crack apart your car engine and start a fire. The news has forced Mazda to recall 65,000 cars in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The spider is the yellow sac spider. Mazda dealers reported 20 cases of webs being found in a vent connected to the fuel tank system. The Associated Press reports:
"Mazda spokesman Jeremy Barnes said dealers had identified 20 cases in which spider webs were found in the vents. So Mazda has no idea why this spider likes its cars.

Nickey Van Exel turned himself

Former NBA player Nick Van Exel's 20-year-old, Nickey Van Exel, has been accused of murdering a friend and was arrested on Dec. 29. The shotgun Van Exel used for the murder has yet to be found and several of Eyo's possessions are missing, leading police to believe Van Exel also committed theft. Van Exel turned himself in and is said to be cooperating with police.

Bradley Bassey Eyo was found shot to death near Lake Ray Hubbard on Sunday. Police said Nickey Van Exel turned himself in Wednesday.

Nickey Van Exel's father, Nick Van Exel, played for the Dallas Mavericks from 2001-2003.
File this one under "Holy Crap": the 20-year-old son of former Laker Nick Van Exel has been charged with capital murder in Texas. Paul Johnson, Nickey's attorney, has reportedly told the AP that his client shot Eyo when the two were engaged in "horseplay" and that he didn't know the gun was loaded.

The elder Van Exel, apparently, works for the Atlanta Hawks these days as a player development instructor.

al-Mart outperformed during the recession and lagged last year

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. may be a good stock to buy because the world’s largest retailer has easy comparisons this holiday shopping season, according to Adrianne Shapira, an analyst for Goldman Sachs Group Inc.
Wal-Mart outperformed during the recession and lagged last year, said Shapira, who recommends buying the stock.

In the third quarter, sales from outside the U.S. increased 9.3 percent to $26.9 billion while overall revenue gained 2.6 percent to $101.2 billion.
“Global is a tremendous opportunity,” Shapira said. International sales “will continue to grow and improve returns over time.”
