The Southwold Christmas Lights Committee are delighted to announce that we are preparing for another "WOW factor" in our events line up for 2010.

Father Christmas will be switching on the lights at 7pm however the entertainment starts in the Market Square at 5pm.

The star of this years’ show was children’s television character Bob the Builder and his friends. Last year’s main event was former Britain’s Got Talent Winners, Diversity.

Sheridan Smith, marketing manager at Chapelfield, said: “We’re expecting about 2,000 people this year. “You can’t really see Santa and a Christmas tree, giant baubles and sparkling lights without feeling Christmassy.”

Complementing the entertainment on the stage, in the Chapelfield centre there were real reindeer and also donkey ‘reindeer’ rides, craft activities, face painting, the Jack Frost band on stilts and some Christmas elves just to top it off all.

The event marks the start of late night seasonal shopping and this is also the first official Christmas lights switch on event in the City.
Newton Flotman resident Silvaneide Crane said: “It’s nice to take the kids out and come and see people. The event was hosted by radio Norwich 99.9, with presenters Steve Bradley and Tina James.

THE lights will definitely be going on in Ilfracombe this Christmas thanks to the generosity of local people.

The annual Lighting of the Lights takes place on Wednesday, December 1, but a few weeks ago organisers the High Street Traders were wondering if it would happen due to dwindling funds in the festive kitty.

Each year thousands gather at “the square” by Ilfracombe’s war memorial to witness the lighting of the lights before heading to the High Street for some late night shopping, plus plenty of sights, sounds and activities.

There will be a short service from atop the now traditional open-topped Golden Coast Holidays double decker bus, led by the Reverend Robert Harris, with carols by Ilfracombe Parish Church Choir.

Fund raising continues to ensure next year definitely happens and collections boxes are in all the High Street Traders shops.”
The George and Dragon pub in Fore Street dedicated one of its weekly Tuesday quiz nights to the lighting of the lights and raised £200 in one evening.

As reported on www.whtimes24.co.uk this morning (Thursday), Belle Amie will be the X Factor stars making the Galleria glitter as they switch on the centre’s "Christmas lights".

The night will see a whole host of entertainment including performances from WGC’s young football freestyler Josh Clancy and Top Hat Stage School, as well as Belle Amie, who will be singing four songs.
