It's apparently change-your-profile-picture week on Facebook, as a swath of users have spent the past few weeks replacing their standard profile pictures with images of cartoon characters. From there, the cyber-campaign allegedly transformed into a statement against child abuse, as numerous postings of the following boilerplate messaged started to accompany the picture-swapping

"In support of anti-child violence, change your facebook profile picture to a cartoon from your childhood. Join the fight against CHILD ABUSE. "From the 16th to the 20th of November, we shall change our profile pictures to our favourite [sic] cartoon characters. Of course, not all Facebook users have opted to join the cartoony cause. "Enough of your slacktivism," reads one Facebook user's status update. "Putting up a picture from a cartoon is not going to end child abuse.

The recent Facebook trend of 'change your profile pic to cartoon' seems to have gained a lot of fans and millions of Facebook users have changed their profile pic to "cartoon characters". “In support of anti-child violence, change your Facebook profile picture to a cartoon from your childhood. Google Trends data showed en masse searches for keywords like ‘cartoon characters of 80s’ and ‘cartoon characters of 90s.’

Some mysteries were doubted to have behind the Facebook anti-child abuse campaign. In a press release, Facebook rejected all speculations that link pedophiles with the campaign.
