Elizabeth Edwards died of breast cancer yesterday at the age of 61. Whether it was on the campaign trail, during her cancer treatments or on book tours, Edwards connected with a large number of people — even as she split from husband and former Senator John Edwards.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday for Elizabeth Edwards, who died Wednesday after a long and public battle with breast cancer.

Sue Rhode is a self-proclaimed fighter. She's been battling breast cancer since 2005 and is determined to beat it with the help of family and friends.

Sue took a long pause. Elizabeth Edwards fought her disease with the public watching -- speaking about the battle and writing two books.

Patel, an Aurora BayCare oncologist, says many of his patients looked to "Elizabeth Edwards" as a source of strength, so her death will worry them.

Dr. Patel says he's reassuring his patients that is rare and reminding them every case is different.

Elizabeth Edwards, wife of former presidential candidate John Edwards, died Tuesday and is now being remembered for the determination she showed in her battle against breast cancer.

Those last days can be defining for patients -- and family members. BreastCancer.orgRealizing that you've reached the limit can increase your anger, depression, despair, and confusion. Cancer.Net offers this advice to loved ones: "It is often difficult to remain objective when a family member or friend suddenly stops his or her treatment. However, the decision whether to receive treatment or stop treatment belongs to them. "We salute you for all you have done to surround your loved one with understanding care, to provide your loved one with comfort and calm, and to enable your loved one to leave this world with a special sense of peace and love."
